Cathay Pacific Cadet Pilot Programme — the online tests, with the evidence tier on the table

Updated July 2026 · by the SkyAptitude team · how we know what we claim

Cathay's cadet programme screens globally, and its online aptitude stage is reported to use Aon cut-e modules. Full disclosure up front: this is our weakest-evidenced preset — one detailed vendor source, cut-e usage corroborated by one more. We ship it because the module families are cut-e's standard pilot set either way, and generated practice on those families transfers. The preset inside the trainer carries the same caveat.

What's reported

The reported core is cut-e's familiar pair for pilots: spatial orientation on instruments (scales ndb family) and deductive grid logic — with applied numeracy, verbal reasoning, the squares questionnaire and a spatial variant (spr) also named in vendor materials. Cathay's process then moves to interviews and sim/group assessments that no online tool can prepare fully.

Why we're comfortable shipping a weakly-evidenced preset

Because we label it. The alternative — implying certainty we don't have — is how the prep industry earns its reputation. If your invitation email describes a different battery, trust the invitation, use our generic practice mode for the overlapping modules, and email us the (public, non-confidential) format description so we can improve the preset for the next candidate.

Deductive grid logic (scales lst / gapChallenge)Latin-square deduction — which symbol belongs in the ? cell6 minmatches published spec

"Matches published spec" = the module follows the test publisher's own public task description. "Reconstructed" = built from converging third-party descriptions; format may differ in detail. Deep-dives on how every module works live on the module guide.

What we don't simulate (yet)

From the reported battery, these parts are not in our trainer today:

For those, use the official Aon practice items linked from your test invitation — they exist for exactly this purpose, and no third-party imitation (ours included) substitutes for them.

How sure are we about this battery?

Single detailed vendor; cut-e usage converged by one more.

Employers change vendors and battery composition without notice. Treat every battery list on the internet — ours included — as a best-available reconstruction, and always do the official practice items your test invitation links.

Preparation that actually moves the needle

Frequently asked, honestly answered

What is on the Cathay Pacific cadet online assessment?

Reported (single detailed vendor, corroborated once): cut-e spatial orientation, deductive grid logic, applied numeracy, verbal reasoning, squares, and a spatial variant. Our confidence in this composition is lower than for our European presets, and the preset says so.

Does Cathay Pacific use cut-e?

Vendor sources report Aon/cut-e usage for the cadet programme’s online stage. We’ve found fewer independent corroborations than for Ryanair or easyJet — treat the battery list as indicative.

Can I prepare for the later stages here?

No — interviews, group exercises and sim assessments need different preparation. We simulate online aptitude modules only, and we’d rather be excellent at that than pretend to cover everything.

Is practice worth it if the battery might differ?

Yes — cut-e’s pilot module families repeat across airlines, so fluency in grid logic and instrument orientation transfers to whatever subset you actually face.
